The approach

Behind the Book

I did not set out to write a book. I set out to keep a record I could stand behind, for my daughter and for myself. The book is what that record became.

Every chapter is built the same way on purpose. It opens with a short thought that names what the chapter is about, it centers on one line I chose to hold onto, and it closes with where that left me. I built it that way so a tired reader could move straight to the part that matches their own situation, and so the important parts did not get buried.

The whole book rests on four principles. They are not slogans to me. They were the choices I had to make, again and again, when the easier move was the opposite.

Clarity over comfort.   Transparency over secrecy.   Structure over spin.   Love over anger.

One of the opening thoughts frames it well:

This book was written with deliberate care. I shaped the narrative thoughtfully and strategically, making careful decisions about which details to share, which words to use, and which to avoid. The goal has been to balance honesty with protection to create a clear, meaningful, and enduring story of record.
